Photos of murals in other cities say little about how a wall here will hold up. Brevard County light, humidity, and salt air are their own conditions, and a muralist who works locally has walls you can actually go look at.

A local artist also knows the practical stuff: which neighborhoods have stucco exteriors, which builds have textured drywall, and how a Florida afternoon storm season affects scheduling.

Ask whether you approve a sketch before painting starts

This is the single biggest difference between a professional commission and a gamble. The concept should be drawn and agreed before the first brush touches your wall — composition, colors, and scale, in writing.

If the answer is 'I usually just start and see how it goes,' that is your answer about the process.

Ask what the quote actually covers

A clear quote names the wall size, the surface prep, the paints and finishes, the number of painting days, and who moves the furniture. Ask specifically about prep: patching, sanding, priming, and whether the wall needs to be emptied.

You should also ask what happens after — whether the mural gets a protective coat, and how it should be cleaned.

Ask about the wall you actually have

Textured drywall, previous paint sheen, sun exposure, and moisture all change what a mural needs. A good muralist will want photos and may ask to see the space before quoting, rather than naming a price sight unseen.

Ask plainly whether your wall is a good candidate. If it is not, you want to hear that on the front end.
